When It Rains, It Pours

Sorry I've been M.I.A. for a while, I've been so busy the last week, and I kind of feel like life's out of control right now.  Here's a quick update on what's going on:

1. I had 2 interviews for my dream job, and last Friday they called and said that I was chosen.  We started getting into salary negotiations, and I was supposed to hear back from them on Monday about a start date, and the final details, but they have still not contacted me.  At this point I'm wondering if it's even happening anymore.  I emailed them to get a status update, but have been getting the run-around.  If they do want to proceed, I'll really have to think long and hard about if I want to work there after all.

2.  My Grandmother was diagnosed last week with stage IV pancreatic cancer, and has a prognosis of only about 6-8 weeks.  I went up to visit her this past weekend, and was so glad that I was able to have a few days of quality time, before she gets too sick.  The diagnosis really took the family by surprise, since she was so active, and seemed so healthy until now.  Also, I had just seen her at Christmas, and she had seemed like herself.  I was so sad the last week or so, that I just haven't felt like blogging.

3. Another coworker quit, so we had to do interviews to fill her position yesterday.  We found a really good candidate, but I'm not really looking forward to training someone again.

4. Ben has the flu.  He wasn't feeling well yesterday, and woke up in the middle of the night with a 103 degree fever.  I stayed home today to take care of him, and I'm really hoping I don't catch this.

5. Ben and I have both been traveling so much, that we feel like we haven't had a lot of quality time together.  He was in San Diego last week, and I'm getting ready to go to Utah in 2 weeks.  I'm excited about my trip, but I CAN'T WAIT until May and June, when we have NO travel plans.  I think we both need some extended time at home this summer!

I guess life can't be great all the time, but sometimes it really sucks.  At least it seems to have finally stopped raining, and the sunshine and warm weather always have a way of improving my mood.

Hopefully next week will be better than the last!

Happy Easter/Sunday Social

Happy Easter Everyone!  Today has been a wonderful day.  The Easter Bunny was good to me, and brought some chocolate and flowers!  It's been raining off and on all day, so I've been trying to squeeze in some yard work when I can, and helping Ben work on the upstairs.

Also, my tulips chose the perfect day to finally bloom!

Here are this week's Sunday Social questions:

1. Favorite type of workout to do?  I really like playing tennis, but I don't know if that counts as a "workout".  Besides that, I'd say that the couch to 10k program is my favorite (even though some days I despise it!).

2. Favorite guilty pleasure candy or sweet?  I don't really like sweets that much, but if I had to choose, it would be nerds rope!  My favorite guilty pleasure food though, is chips and dip!  I can't get enough of them!

3. What is one thing you continuously forget to do?  Turn on the vent fan when I'm boiling water.  I'm also really bad at remembering to put clothes in the dryer.  Sometimes they end up sitting in the washer for days, and I have to do the whole load again.

4. Post its or phone reminders? Why?  Both.  I always used to use post its, and I often still do, if it's work related, and I can just stick it on my desk.  I'm starting to use phone reminders for things that I need to remember at a different location.  (Ex: Shopping lists)  I found that I was always losing the post it notes, so I've started using my phone for those.

5. Favorite picture currently on your phone that always makes you smile.  Tyler HATES the camera, and will never let me take a good picture of him.  I was able to get this picture while he was sleeping in a basket full of blankets.  He looked so cute and peaceful, and I always smile when I look at this!

Happy Friday Everyone!  I'm so ready for a long holiday weekend!  I've had a really busy week this week, and am ready to relax and do nothing.  Here are my highlights for the week:

1. I had 2 job interviews this week! Both of them were for the same job, so now I'm just playing the waiting game.  This position would be a huge step up from my current position, so I really hope I get it!

2. I've been obsessed with this nail polish this week: OPI Step Right Up.  It's the perfect neutral pink, and the formula is great.

3.  Easter candy.  I love it.  I normally hate marshmallows, but I love peeps.  Especially if they are slightly stale.  Is that gross?

4. My hair has been growing crazy fast lately, and I haven't even remembered to take my Biotin!  I'm loving it!

5. I found the perfect everyday makeup combination this week, and now I'm wondering if I'll ever use any of my other makeup again.  I'm really loving the results!  I especially love this lip balm:

Operation Curb Appeal Week 2

Guys, this post title is a little misleading, because I didn't do ANYTHING for Operation Curb Appeal this week.  I had big plans to cross a few things off my list, but the weather hasn't really been on my side.  It's been nasty, cold, and rainy every day, so I have been cooped up inside addicted to playing a lot of this:

The only thing that really counts, is that I bought two more pillows for the back porch, and a wasp trap.  Exciting, huh?

In case you forgot, the pillows look like this

I came thisclose to buying a large outdoor rug on hautelook, but it was non-returnable, so I couldn't pull the trigger.

This next week looks like it will be yet another week of nasty weather.  Monday could possibly be nice, and luckily I'm off, so I'll be busting my ass that day to get stuff done!  Hopefully I will have a better recap next week!

Anyone else addicted to Candy Crush?  That game is so addicting!

^^That sentence combination shows how tired I am today!^^

Does anyone else play Candy Crush?  That game is so addicting!

Things I'm Loving Lately {Makeup}

Lately, I've been into the no-makeup makeup look, and I think I've discovered the perfect combination of products to achieve this!  I've been wearing this every day, and I love how I feel so put together, but I don't look too "made up".  I've even received a few compliments about how "pretty" I look, so I must be doing something right.  This look would be perfect for work, in fact I came up with this combination when I was getting ready for a job interview.

Note: I don't have any close up pictures of this look, since I feel so awkward taking zoomed in pics of my face, but here is one far away one that I tried to zoom in on.

Disclaimer: This was taken toward the end of the day, and I don't have any lipstick on!

Anyway, here are the products I used:

Via Sephora

1. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream - (Light)  I love this BB Cream, and have been wearing it lately in place of foundation.  It provides great coverage, yet you can't "see" it on your face.  It honestly looks like your skin.  Since I have such terribly dry skin, foundation usually looks flaky on my face, but this makes it look so smooth and healthy!

Via Nordstrom

2. MAC Paint Pot in Painterly- I use this as an eyeshadow base to prevent creasing.

Via Sephora
3. NARS Eyeshadow Duo in All About Eve- I use the pinky shade on the left over the whole lid, then the right shade in the crease.

Via Sephora
4. Stila Eyeshadow in Puppy- I use this shade to blend out the other shadows.

Via Ulta
5. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in Blackened Brown- I am TERRIBLE at applying liquid eyeliner, so I love this pen!  It makes it SO much easier to get a precise line.  Since I'm going for the no-makeup look, I apply a very thin line on the lash line.  I didn't wing mine out, but I'm sure that would look good too!

Via Nordstrom
6. Burberry 'Effortless Mascara' Volumising Enhancer-  I cannot tell you enough how much I LOVE this mascara!  It is hands down, my favorite.  I currently use the 'Midnight Brown' shade, but when I was a blonde I had the 'Midnight Blonde'.  It is best to use whichever shade matches up with your hair color.  This is by far, the most "natural" looking mascara I've used, but also one of the most noticeable (if that makes any sense).  I love the result, and this will always be my go-to every day mascara!

Via Ulta
7. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser- (Fair)  I love this concealer for my under eye area.  I don't really have dark circles, so this gives just enough coverage to really brighten that area up.  I'm not sure what kind of results this gets on actual dark circles, but you should give it a shot!  You can't beat the price (especially when Ulta has their B1G1 50% off sale!).

Via Sephora
8. NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna- I love this bronzer, but a little goes a long way!  I use just a bit of this for contouring, since I have a very round face.

Via Sephora
9. NARS Blush in Madly- This is my favorite blush if I'm going for a natural look.  The color is a perfect mix of pink and tan, and is so beautiful!  It's subtle and perfect!

I have two favorite lip products right the moment, and I choose one depending on how dry/chapped my lips are.  While I'm really into bright lip colors this Spring, both of these are very natural colors.

Via Nordstrom

10. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 'Boy'- This picture looks a little lighter than the shade is in real life.  This is my "my lips but better" shade, and I LOVE the formula of this.

Via Nordstrom
11. YSL Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Lip Balm in 'Framboise Craquante'- I am currently OBSESSED with this stuff.  Since my lips are so dry right the moment, this gives me so much moisture, and glides so easily over my chapped lips.  The color is perfect too.  I love everything about this product, and I think it is a must have for any girls makeup bag this Spring!

So, those are my current favorites, any other "natural looking" products I should try?  I'm a makeup junkie!

Weekend Wrap Up

Is it really Monday already?  This weekend has flown by!  Here's what went down:

Friday night, some friends and I decided to give curling a try.  We met up with the Charlotte Centre Curling Club for their "Learn to curl" night.  For $25 each, they teach you everything you need to know to be able to curl, and provide you with equipment to use.  We had about 90 minutes of instruction, and then about an hour of playing time.

Signing my life away!

Curling is pretty exhausting, I was really surprised that I was sore the next day, and still feel it a little today.  The lunging, and sweeping really take a lot out of you!

For me, the scariest part of curling, is sliding on the ice, and running on the ice in order to sweep.  I was SURE I was going to fall on my face.  One guy actually fell pretty hard, and knocked his head.  Other than that, it's really pretty fun!

I don't think that's how you do it...

Ben was obviously, not a natural.  In fact, he gave up after about an hour.  Evidently the other curlers do not like cheering, or trash talk.  I kind of doubt we would be invited back, but it was still a cool experience!

Also, when did the skating rink become the new roller rink??  SO many middle school dates! The ice rink on a Friday night = Excellent people watching!

People watching

Saturday was pretty uneventful.  I worked during the day, and did some grocery shopping, while Ben cleaned out the attic.  I did make some AMAZING guacamole, using Christina's recipe.  Seriously, this stuff is so good.  Try it.

Sunday was very very, rainy, and our yard flooded AGAIN.  We had to run a few errands, like taking all our attic trash to the dumpster.

At the dump, on a nasty, rainy day

We also ran into Home Depot to get some wood.  Why do we need more wood??  Ben is getting ready to start finishing the upstairs!!! I am so excited about this, and can't wait to update you guys on the progress, although it might be slow going!

We spent the rest of the day on the couch watching Basketball...there were quite a few exciting games and upsets (Florida Gulf Coast University?!).

And in other exciting news, I had a job interview this morning!  The most amazing thing, is that this suit still fits!  I haven't worn it in 3 years, and I panicked last night that I wouldn't be able to wear it.  I don't have another suit, and I wouldn't have had time to buy another, so I'm really lucky it fit!

Can't believe this suit still fits!

I hope everyone has a nice, quick week! Only 4 more days until Friday!

Sunday Social

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday!  It's been raining here all day, so we haven't really moved from the couch, which means we've been watching basketball allll day.  Oh, and I am no longer winning my March Madness pool. Boo. Anyway, this week's Sunday Social is about Spring, which it certainly doesn't feel like today!  We were teased with beautiful weather last week, and I'm ready for it to come back!  Here are this week's questions:

1. What is your favorite thing about Spring? Warm (not hot) weather, flowers blooming, bright colors, not wearing a jacket!

2. Favorite kind of flowers to grow or receive?  Grow: Hydrangeas, Roses, Peonies.  Receive: Roses, Tulips, Peonies, Ranunculus.

3. What is your favorite nail polish color?  Mint Green ( Butter London's Fiver) or Coral/Hot Pink

4. What is your favorite outdoor activity?  Working in the yard, walking the dogs.

5. Do you have any fun spring plans? Details?  I'm going to Utah next month with my Mother in Law!  We are going hiking and rafting, and I can't wait!
